Liga MB Round 24: #1 San Salvador is defeated by Brujos

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked San Salvador (15-2) in Izalco on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by fifth ranked Brujos (9-8) 92-74. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of San Salvador. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Brujos made 22 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of Guyanese-American center Anthony Moe (207-1990, college: Millersville) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points, 13 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 blocks and Dominican forward Juan De Los Santos (193-2002) who added 26 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American swingman Andravious Smith (198-1995, college: Tougaloo) with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Brujos maintains fifth position with 9-8 record. San Salvador at the other side still keeps top place with two games lost. They share the position with Santa Tecla.
9th ranked Santa Ana (5-13) was outscored at home by seventh ranked Fantasmas (7-10) with the biggest margin this round 101-51. The winners were led by American Nick Moore (198-1991, college: Alliance) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 24 points, 22 rebounds and 6 assists and Juwuan Carter supported him with 37 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Even a double-double of 32 points and 10 rebounds by American point guard Miles Weber (185-1996, college: Harris-Stowe St.) did not help to save the game for Santa Ana. Santa Ana's coach Melvin Marroquin gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Fantasmas maintains seventh position with 7-10 record. Santa Ana lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 13 games lost.

In the last game of round 24 Santiagueno was destroyed by Metapan on the opponent's court 116-84.




Santa Ana - Fantasmas 51-101

9th ranked Santa Ana (5-13) was outscored at home by seventh ranked Fantasmas (7-10) with the biggest margin this round 101-51. Fantasmas dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Santa Ana's 34. They outrebounded Santa Ana 71-38 including a 24-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. Fantasmas players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. The winners were led by American Nick Moore (198-1991, college: Alliance) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 24 points, 22 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import guard Juwuan Carter (193-1996, college: Georgian Court) supported him with 37 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Carter is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even a double-double of 32 points and 10 rebounds by American point guard Miles Weber (185-1996, college: Harris-Stowe St.) did not help to save the game for Santa Ana. Costa Rican Luis Alfaro (-2001) added 5 points, 13 rebounds and 6 assists. Santa Ana's coach Melvin Marroquin gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Fantasmas maintains seventh position with 7-10 record. Santa Ana lost eighth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 13 games lost.

Metapan - Santiagueno 116-84

Rather expected game when 8th ranked Santiagueno (5-12) was crushed on the road by sixth ranked Metapan (8-9) 116-84. Metapan dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Santiagueno's 44. They outrebounded Santiagueno 52-32 including a 30-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Metapan players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists. The winners were led by Canadian Marcus Faison (196-1994, college: Salem St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and American point guard Leangelo Saravia (183, college: Oakland City) supported him with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists. Five Metapan players scored in double figures. Even 27 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists by American guard EJ Blackwell (193, college: Lourdes) did not help to save the game for Santiagueno. His fellow American import swingman Josh Jackson (203-1997, college: Kansas) added 16 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Metapan maintains sixth position with 8-9 record. Santiagueno at the other side keeps the eighth place with 12 games lost.
